Roger Federer was recently fined $1,500 for use of profanity.  Federer was arguing with the chair umpire during the U.S. Open when he let out foul language.  There is evidence to prove the profanity.  CBS microphones picked up the exchange during its live broadcast of the match.

Chris Widmaier, who is the tournament spokesman, says the tournament has collected a total of 31,500 for fines.  This includes fines from Serena Williams, Vera Zvonareva, and Daniel Koellerer for profane language.

The New England Patriots recently traded DL Richard Seymour to the Oakland Raiders.  This move poses a huge risk for the Raiders.  The Raiders do not qualify for the first-round pick in 2011 because of the trade.   Seymour who turns 30 next month will receive $3.685 million for the season.

Richard Seymour Traded To Raiders“It shows the commitment of this organization,” defensive end Greg Ellis said. “You can’t guarantee we’re going to have a great, great season this year. But the commitment is definitely there so players don’t have to question that when you’re making those kinds of moves to make something happen and hopefully win right now.”

Seymour was drafted sixth overall in 2001. He played on three Super Bowl winners with the Patriots, recording 39 career sacks and being selected to the Pro Bowl for five straight seasons beginning in 2002.  I believe they made a great decision.  Sometimes you have to take risks.  We wish them luck with the upcoming season

Blount Blows Chance at NFL

Sunday, September 6th, 2009

LeGarrette Blount was suspended from all remaining games for punching Byron Hout in the jaw.  Hout is a Boise State defensive end.  Because Blount is a senior, it seems as though his chances at the NFL are over.

LeGarrette Blount’s is a running back for Oregon State, who received the news from Chip Kelley  Oregon’s first-year coach.  He told Blount about the decision as he sobbed.  It all started when Hout yelled in Blount’s face and tapped him on the shoulder pad.  Before Chris Petersen who is the Boise State coach could pull Hout away, Blount punched him in the Jaw and he landed to his knees.  Blount also had to be restrained by police from fans heckling him on the way to the locker room.

Blount later apologized about his behavior. “It was just something that I shouldn’t have done. I lost my head,” says Blount.  Apparently Blounts apology wasn’t enough. “That’s not what we’re all about. That’s not what we coach. That’s not what we stand for and it’s unacceptable,” says Kelley.  Luckily, Blount will remain on scholarship and continue to practice with his team.

“He is taking this very hard,” Kelly said, choking up. “He understands he made a mistake and he has to pay for the mistake. But we’re not going to throw LeGarrette Blount out on the street.”

Surprisingly Hout will not be suspended for taunting Blount. Boise State spokesman Max Corbet told The Associated Press in an e-mail that Petersen planned to spend time with Hout this week to help him learn from what happened.  We wish Blount luck with all his future endeavors

The Eagles are expecting NFL commissioner Roger Goodell to issue a rulling on Michael Vick’s possible full reinstatement by Saturday.  The leagues mandatory cutdown to a 53 player roster deadline is approaching.  This factor will play a huge role in their final roster.

In July Vick was placed under a conditional reinstatement.  The condition of the reinstatement stated that Vick was unable to play in regular games until notified by Goodell.  Team president Joe Banner has been in contact on a weekly basis with Goodell.  They are at least hoping for a better understanding of when the full reinstatement will take place.  The decision will be based on his progress and behavior. We wish Michael Vick and the Philadelphia Eagles luck with the upcoming season.

Miami Dolphins running back Ricky Williams has signed a one-year contract extension.  Williams is set to make a base salary of $3.4 million and $4.35 million in 2010.  Williams and the Dolphins mutually agreed to this contract without the help of his agent.

Ricky Williams is the NFL’s leading rusher in 2002, and the 1998 recipient of the Heisman Trophy.  Five years ago Williams made headlines when he abruptly retired.  After a few years he returned to the Miami Dolphins in 2005, but missed the whole season due to a drug test failure.  Williams was reinstated for the NFL 2007 season.  It seems as though Miami is home for running back Ricky Williams.  We wish the Dolphins luck with their upcoming season.
