On Sunday August 30, 2009 The University of Michigan announced its launch of an investigation concerning allegations that its football program regularly violates NCAA rules.  The accusation states that the program limits how much time players can spend on training and practice.

Athletic director Bill Martin came across an article by the Detroit Free pass, in which players from the 2008 and 2009 teams stated that rules were broken.  According to the players the time they spend on football during the season and in the offseason greatly exceeds the NCAA limits.  The players spoke anonymously to the paper for fear of repercussions from the coaches.  We will have to wait and see the outcome.

Andre Smith signed a contract with the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday August 30, 2009.  The original plan was to have Smith start as a right tackle, he missed three preseason games.  While in Cincinnati he agreed to the deal just before the start of a late afternoon practice.

As for the Bengals, their preseason schedule will finish with a home game against Indianapolis in Thursday.  As of right now, it’s not definite if Smith will participate.

Andre Smith was the highest unsigned NFL pick with one week left in the preseason.  He was the sixth overall pick.  His four-year deal includes a $21 million guarantee.  After the 2010 season the team has the option to make it a six-year deal that will give him guaranteed $29.5 million.  We wish the Bengals and Smith luck with the upcoming season.

Greg Jennings wide receiver for the Green Bay Packers left Fridays night’s game due to concussion. Packers played against Arizona when Jennings received a blow to the head in the first quarter. During the game opening the Packers went in for the sixth touchdown drive in seven attempts for the Breen Bay’s first offense in the preseason.

“Got hit, got a concussion, But I’m good now,” Jennings told a newspaper on his way out of the locker room. After the blow Jennings remained on the sideline. He also stated that it took some time before he could walk on his own. According to Jennings he briefly lost consciousness. He did not require medical tests for the injury.

Recently Tom Brady was physically tackled to the turf by Albert Haynesworth causing his shoulder to be sore.  He spent the following half our on the bench flexing and rotating his throwing arm.

As of right now we don’t know how serious the injury is.  The discomfort to the shoulder took place Friday night when the New England Patriots won 27-24 over the Washington Redskins.  It was in the first half when his was tackled to the ground by Haynesworth after a third down complete pass.  We hope that’s its not serious.  We wish him luck with the remainder of the season.

Stephen Jackson of the Golden State Warriors has recently requested a trade.  His preference is to land a deal with the Cleveland Cavaliers, but will accept any of the three NBA teams in Texas.  The reason for Jackson’s request to be traded has to do with the desire to play for a team that consistently makes the postseason.  Unfortunately the Warriors have made it once in the last 15 years.

“At this point, I’m 31 years old.  I have four or five years left”, says Jackson during an interview with Dime Magazine.  “I want to be in a situation where I can continually be in the playoffs and get another ring.  So that’s where my mind is now.”  We wish Stephen Jackson luck with all his future endeavors.
