1972 Dolphins Perfect Season
Charlie Babb Autographed / Signed 8x10 Photo
Babb played in 92 games during his seven-year career, totaling 364 tackles, eight fumble recoveries, and 11 interceptions for 138 yards. A gritty defender and rousing tackler, he played in every game his first five seasons in the league. However, his last two campaigns were marred by injuries. In the 1976 finale, he tore three ligaments in his left knee requiring two operations. After rehabilitating from that injury, he separated his right shoulder in the 1977 preseason causing him to miss two months of action. Babb is best remembered for blocking a punt by Cleveland's Don Cockroft and returning it five yards for his only professional touchdown in the Dolphins 20-14 win over the Browns in the 1972 playoffs. His three interceptions against Oakland (9/22/75), in replace of an injured Dick Anderson, is tied for second all-time behind Anderson's four thefts (12/3/73). Babb earned the Tommy Fitzgerald Memorial Award as outstanding rookie in training camp (1972) and was voted the team's outstanding defensive back in 1976.
